Mike Wall - 6 dan jujitsu
Mike Wall started his long career in the martial arts in 1977 when he went to Helsingborg’s Jujitsuskola on Trädgårdsgatan 15 in Helsingborg. He was then a young and lanky kid who had no previous experience in martial arts. Mike was the first in the entire family to practice martial arts if you do not count Mike’s father Olle’s wrestling background as a young man. .
Mike proved to be stubborn and determined which was lucky because initially, he found the jujitsu techniques to be difficult. But Mike continued to practice and when he in 1984 captured his 1st Dan black belt, this was only the beginning of a long and successful career. Today, Mike has reached up to the 6th Dan black belt but has also trained a variety of other styles. Mike is currently holding the purple belt in Brazilian Jiujitsu under Marcelo Santiago “Yougii” and a series of instructor titles and degrees in other martial arts. His interest in the traditional Kobudo is just as big as before and Mike has also tried Krav Maga during 2009 which has opened his eyes to another new exiting art!
Mike is recognized as a talented speaker and source of inspiration and it is his work to put the martial arts on the map outside of his own circle that has made him so successful. Mike has over many years, built an invaluable network of contacts within both the Children- and youth Habilitation, Department of Paediatrics, LSS, the “Plus team”, schools, etc...
As proof of his dedicated work especially with children and young people with various disabilities, Mike received the price as “sports instructor of 2006” at the Scanian sports gala. The next year, Mike was elected “leader of the year in the Swedish Budo and Martial Arts” at the big annual general meeting at Sheraton Stockholm. In 2008 when Mike became one of four Swedes who received the prestigious task of running as representatives of Sweden in the international torch relay for the Olympics in China, this was further proof of a lifelong commitment.
Mike has now together with Dennis Nordin and Clas Bjurestig founded Fenix Budo and Martial Arts Association and he hopes that this new focus will mean that the joy of sports and the knowledge will be spread to everybody who seriously wants to learn. The work with Fenix has given new energy and hope for the future and the future looks extremely bright! |
